Jennifer Grey Reacts To The Dirty Dancing Rremake

Fans of the 'Dirty Dancing' didn't take kindly to the news that Lionsgate is planning to remake the 1987 classic, but the movie’s original star is perfectly content with the idea of an update.

Actress Jennifer Grey, who played Baby, the teenage girl falling in love at a Catskills camp, tweeted her response Tuesday: 'I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake'.

Jennifer Grey has a good reason to have faith in Kenny Ortega: He was the choreographer on the original film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate announced the remake plans and choice of director on Monday. 'The opportunity to direct ‘Dirty Dancing’ is like returning home for me', said Kenny Ortega, who directed 'High School Musical 3', 'Newsies', 'Hocus Pocus' and the Michael Jackson documentary 'This Is It'.

Kenny Ortega added of the movie’s late male lead, 'Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies'. 'I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats'.

The original film earned $214 million worldwide, and in the 24 years since its release has sold more than 10 million copies on DVD.
