Doris Day's Birth Day Today_ She Turns 88


The actress, singer, and an outspoken animal rights activist since her retirement from show business, turns 88 today, April 3.

Doris Day began her entertainment career in 1945 as a big band singer.

She had her first hit recording In 1945, Sentimental Journey. In 1948, she appeared in her first film, Romance on the High Seas.

Day's entertainment career,she appeared in 39 films, recorded more than 650 songs, received an Academy Award nomination, won a Golden Globe and a Grammy Award, and, in 1989, received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures.

Doris was the top-ranking female box office star of all time and ranked sixth among the top ten box office performers 'male and female', as of 2009.

The Biographer David Kaufman once revealed that Day insists friends call her Clara and avoid all talk about her image as America’s sweetheart.

He said back in 2008, She feels so completely disassociated from who Doris Day was.

Doris Day’s birth name is Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff. Kaufman claims Clara is a nickname she was given by her Tea For Two co-star Billy DeWolfe.
